I was born on the warm spring day of 28 April 1997. Funnily enough, I was born having an anxiety attack and had to be given oxygen (nice foreshadowing for my life lol). I grew up in the north of ye olde England, in Yorkshire to be more precise. My childhood can be best described as 'meh'. There were good times, but also some really bad times; that's just life I suppose. I was that kid in school that sort of faded into the background. I only had a small close group of friends, got bullied a lot, and maintained average grades. There was always a lot of family drama going on (think Jeremy Kyle Show or Maury on steroids), which has given me a lot of mental health issues.
For as long as I can remember, I've always loved to write and was always told that I had a talent for it. It was pretty much all I ever did as a kid. I was even writing fanfiction before I knew what fanfiction was. I was always daydreaming, inventing my own worlds and characters. Looking back, a large part of it was probably a form of escapism for me. I didn't want to deal with reality, so I just locked myself away in fantasy worlds. Since I was very young, I'd always show strong signs that I had an anxiety disorder, but it just never got properly investigated.
After sixth form college, I pretty much had a mental breakdown. Those were some of the darkest times of my life, and honestly, I don't remember much about it. All I know is that my wonderful boyfriend, Jowy Avilon, was my rock during the whole thing. He was the one who finally made me realise that I needed to seek help. I finally spoke to a doctor, was put on medication, and have been in and out of therapy ever since. Despite losing a lot of old friends, I made some new ones, and I am now in a much better place. I still have the odd downturn, but I'm much better at coping with it now.
In 2018, I graduated university with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in history. I had originally planned on going on to obtain a masters degree, but I just couldn't be bothered with all that anymore. But I also had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but that wasn't going to pay the bills. Instead, I went on to qualify in health, beauty and fitness and got a job as an advisor on stuff like that. A complete one-eighty from history, but hey, I love my work and that's the main thing. I'm currently training to become more qualified as I work.
Random Trivia:
- I suffer from dyscalculia, similar to dyslexia but with numbers instead
- As a child, I grew a vampire tooth that needed to be removed (I still have it in a box)
- I'm allergic to grass pollen
- I have a lot of weird phobias. These include: balloons, caterpillars, spiders, wasps, elevators, mirrors, and the dark (more accurately, being alone in the dark)
- Apparently I'm a direct decedent of Attila the Hun (no clue how true that is)
- In real life, I have an actual short story that was officially published
- I'm also a decedent of Dániel Berzsenyi
- Some of my internal organs are slightly wonky
- I'm currently learning French and Spanish
- I'm dating fanfic writer Jowy Avilon
- I'm demisexual (and biromantic)
- I was raised Roman Catholic (though my parents forgot to baptise me lol), but I'm now an atheist
- As a kid, I originally wanted to be a storm chaser
- I have very childish interests. I love to play games, mess around with toys, obstacle courses, swings, slides, bouncy castles etc.
- My pen name was a nickname I had as a teenager
- I love studying tornadoes and have always wanted to properly see one in real life
- It seems I've always been obsessed with darker stuff. I've found drawings from when I was a little kid of amputated arms crawling out of a manhole. Yeah. I have no idea either.
- In university, my speciality was Victorian social history (my dissertation was on working conditions)
- I adore raising gerbils
